Miami Horror – Sometimes (Hook and Sling Remix)

March 4, 2011

I’ve always been partial to Hook and Sling, or Anthony Maniscalco, since 2007 when he collaborated with fellow Australian Kid Kenobi with the release of “Bump“. His obvious talent brought international attention and with that followed the release of several big remixes of Calvin Harris, Fedde Le Grand, Miike Snow, and later Miami Horror. Boasting regular gigs at Pacha London, Ministry of Sound, Space Ibiza and so on, the Sydney born DJ has developed his music to have a slightly more refined feel, rather than out-and-out dynamism, and it certainly paid off with tracks such as this. This remix of “Sometimes” has made my night for a long time now, and as much as I’m compelled by the likes of smooth crooners like Adele and Bruno Mars in the popular scene, its refreshing every once in a while to pump it up a bit with some electro, and of course to hear Aussie boys making some waves in the global music scene.

Chromeo – Hot Mess [Video] & Don’t Turn The Lights On [Remix]

November 17, 2010

The electrofunk duo that make up Chromeo hail from Canada. “Hot Mess”, featuring La Roux, is the first track off their third album Business Casual. We posted earlier the Skream remix of their first single, Night By Night, and here is a remix of the second single from Business Casual, a Christian Martin rework of “Don’t Turn The Lights On”.

Fresh Mix

October 13, 2010

So I’ve been a bit behind so here is a whole lot of tracks all at once. Enjoy. I really don’t know what my favourite genre is…looking over the few posts so far it’s hard to pin it down so I hope people reading the site are as like-minded and a bit all over the place like me. Here’s hoping…

Kid Cudi feat. Snoop Dogg – I Do My Thing. Personally his best tracks are from Man on the Moon: The End of the Day and his early mixtape A Kid Named Cudi as they were a bit more upbeat, but I love the diversity of Cudi. One minute, “REVOFEV”, one minute, “Highs and Lows”.

Chiddy Bang – The Good Life. If Pharrell is producing, you wanna be sure to grab the track and you will not regret it.

Ellie Goulding (Chiddy Bang Remix) – Under The Sheets

Cee Lo Green- Fuck You (Chiddy Bang Remix). I am so thankful he jumped on the Cee Lo hit and remixed the track, I don’t think I can stand the original any more.

Notorious B.I.G. – Sky’s the Limit (Xaphoon Jones Remix)

Aeroplane vs Friendly Fires vs Flight Facilities – I Crave Paris which I read about here. Flight Facilities are a Sydney group that you won’t be able to find a whole lot of information about, but with songs of the calibre of “Crave You”, that anonymity is sure to fade away. Hope to hear more tracks from these guys soon.

Edward Maya ft. Vika Jigulina – Stereolove.

Chiddy Bang has been playing heavily on my stereo over the past couple of months, if it’s not already obvious. His EP The Preview dropped early October in Australia, and hopefully will do until The Swelly Life is released in 2011.

So I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to writing, so this post I guess is to make me put up more of the music that I’ve wanted to post but without knowing what to say about it.

Anyway, it’s late and uni is a killer. I saw this photo below on flickr and thought of the Corona tagline: from where you’d rather be… Oh is that truer than ever.

The MashMaticians – Lisztomania 2

September 22, 2010

From DSL to Classixx to the original version featured on Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, “Lisztomania” has taken over the iPods of the avid scenesters driving the music blogs and party playlists. The MashMaticians, on their debut album The MashoChist, are a welcome addition to the plethora of remixes floating around. What particularly caught my attention was the syncopated synthbeat that places it apart from other remixes. It lies somewhere in between DSL’s jolting version, and the lighter remix by Classixx.

I keep thinking that I’ve had enough of anything Lisztomania related, however new tracks always surface that make me keep bobbing my head.

Check out the track over at http://mashmaticians.bandcamp.com/track/lisztomania-2 and be sure to give the other tracks a listen, they are well worth it.
