Kid Cudi – Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager [Album Stream]

Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager

I’ve been waiting for this to drop for such a long time. After a few listens (straight through, instead of just basing it off early releases), the album is obviously considerably more glum and sombre than his previous productions. This however, is not regrettable and it’s certainly refreshing to see artists express their musical talents with such creativity. Cudi’s musical maturity has come hand-in-hand with his typical downtempo, honest style, and while and the rapper continues for the most part to be atypical to the rest of the genre, and popular music as a whole, his spaced out beats keep bringing in the listeners. Ultimately for me, apart from a couple of tracks, I don’t think it matches the ‘replay value’ of Man on the Moon: The End of the Day. Stream the entire album below:

Opptimo – Travellers EP

Opptimo - Travellers EP

I stumbled across Opptimo via Discoworkout. Check out “Locate” and “Disaster”

And check out another instrumental favourite of mine, “Battle Royale” by Does it Offend You, Yeah? in their 2008 release. Their upcoming release, Dont Say We Didn’t Warn You is scheduled to be released in January 2011.

Deadmau5 – Get In The Cart, Pig.

November 15, 2010

Deadmau5 seems to be a bit more focused on trance rather than the catchy beats ever-present in the previous album For Lack of a Better Name. But the intense buildup and change of pace throughout the track make “Get in the Cart, Pig” compelling listening. Much the same as Ratatat, in terms of outstanding musical composition, but more of a heavy beat and motifs rather than catchy melodies. Can’t wait to hear more work done on this track, which has over 100,000 plays over at the Soundcloud page.

(Hit the speech bubble to turn the comments off to skip forwards, but Deadmau5 is not the sort of artist that you would want to do that anyway).

As for the newly released single “Right This Second”, from 4×4=12, I think for me it needs more listening. Too repetitive at this stage, but I can see myself playing this over and over soon. Check it out below:

Lastly this is a sick video of possibly the coolest dad in the world making his son a Deadmau5 Halloween costume. I want it!

Feel free to drop some knowledge in the comments…

Too Much Kid Cudi Is Never Enough

November 2, 2010

From the top of the class Pretty Much Amazing comes a couple of new tracks from the top of the class Kid Cudi. “Scott Mescudi vs. The Word” and “Marijuana” drop, a week away from the release of his new album Man on the Moon II. Can’t wait.

You can now stream Cudi’s album here.

Coldplay Viva La Vida

The imperfections, subtleties and of course visual element of live performances make them stand out in a completely different way to the studio-recorded track. And of course this is especially so when performers collaborate onstage, particularly ones of the calibre of Coldplay and John Farnham. Check out a clip from Sound Relief at the Sydney Cricket Ground last year…

Brilliant to watch, and I’ve got the version of “Fix You” from the same crowd, as Chris Martin runs into the frenzied crowd, which I’ll upload soon.
